This week, the 2017 ASPPH Sections Retreat was held at the Pfister Hotel in Milwaukee, WI. The retreat included four tracks: academic affairs, academic public health practice, finance and administration, and research. Each group participated in a plenary session as well as topic sessions specific to each track. There were 162 attendees at this year’s retreat representing 80 ASPPH-member CEPH-accredited schools and programs of public health and two associate-members.
The meeting started on Wednesday, June 21 with an opening plenary session. The session featured presentations from Dean Donna Petersen (South Florida) on transforming academic public health in response to change and Mr. Tony Mazzaschi (ASPPH) on ASPPH’s policy and advocacy efforts. On Thursday and Friday, the attendees in each track covered a wide range of topics – for full agendas for each track please visit the retreat event page.
The planning committee included representatives from each track Dr. Eleanor Feingold (Pittsburgh), Dr. Matthew Kreuter (WashU), and Dr. Rob Pack (East Tennessee) for academic affairs; Dr. Harold Cox (BU) and Dr. Jennifer Griffith (Texas A&M) for academic public health practice; Ms. Karen Ervin (East Tennessee) and Ms. Deanna Debus (Oklahoma) for finance and administration; and Dr. Bernadette Boden-Albala (NYU) and Dr. Gulzar Shah (Georgia Southern) for research. Many thanks to the planning committee and discussion leaders for their efforts in making this year’s retreat a great success.
