Anna Deavere Smith to Perform at 2017 ASPPH Annual Meeting

Esteemed actress, playwright, social commentator, Anna Deavere Smith, will perform excerpts from her critically-acclaimed off-Broadway production Notes From the Field: Doing Time in Education at the ASPPH Annual Meeting on Friday, March 17, 8:45 – 10:00a.m.

Urgent and inspiring, it depicts the personal accounts of students, parents, teachers and administrators caught in America’s school-to-prison pipeline. Investigating a justice system that pushes minors from poor communities out of the classroom and into incarceration, Notes From the Field shines a light on a lost generation of American youth. Drawn from interviews with more than 250 people living and working within a challenged system, Ms. Smith continues her mastery of the documentary solo performance by stimulating awareness and, ultimately, change for the better.

Leaders, faculty, staff, and students from all ASPPH-member schools and programs are encouraged to attend the 2017 ASPPH Annual Meeting Wednesday, March 15 – Friday, March 17, at the Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, VA.. The registration deadline is March 3 and the hotel reservation deadline is February 24.
