Last week, Dr. Harrison C. Spencer, ASPPH president and CEO, attended the Association of Schools of Public Health in the European Region (ASPHER) 2016 Deans’ and Directors’ Retreat in Athens, Greece at their National School of Public Health. The theme of the meeting was “Taking Stock; Moving Forward”, and it marked ASPHER’s 50th anniversary. The meeting focused on the professionalization of public health in cooperation with partner associations, the role of academic public health institutions in the implementation of ASPHER 2020, promotion of global collaboration, and learning from the past to construct the future of public health. Dr. Spencer presented at and participated in a panel discussion on Friday, May 27, regarding opportunities for collaboration between ASPPH and ASPHER, as part of the ASPPH Global Health Committee’s agenda to engage in global partnerships. The ASPPH Global Health Committee is chaired by Dean Jim Curran, Emory University Rollins School of Public Health.
