ASPPH joined the American Public Health Association (APHA) to observe National Public Health Week. On April 3, ASPPH staff visited a Washington DC public school to encourage students to engage in physical activity to improve health and reduce stress. Building on the CDC tips for handwashing, we were able to demonstrate the effectiveness of handwashing in preventing the spread of germs.
In addition, ASPPH, in partnership with the League for Innovation in the Community College (The League), and the Society for Public Health Education (SOPHE), presented a webinar entitled, This is Public Health Education – Helping Your Students Become Part of It. Laura Magaña, ASPPH, Cynthia Wilson, Vice President for Learning and Chief Impact Officer of the League, Elaine Auld CEO of SOPHE, Richard Riegelman, professor and founding dean of GW University Milken Institute School of Public Health, Katherine Johnson, professor at Elon University, described public health education options available at the bachelor’s degree level and beyond. Amy Collins, professor at Doña Ana Community College, and Becky Corran, associate professor at Doña Ana Community College, described innovative partnerships of their community college with undergraduate education.
