On November 3-5, the CDC hosted the “Kick-Off Meeting” of the Prevention Research Centers (PRC) in Atlanta. The participants heard presentations from various CDC leaders and program and grant administrators. Each PRC also made a short presentation on their on-going initiatives.
Dean Gary Raskob (Oaklahoma), chair-elect of the ASPPH and interim chair of the ASPPH Legislative Committee, and Tony Mazzaschi, ASPPH Senior Director of Policy and Research, attended the meeting and made a presentation on ASPPH and how ASPPH and the PRC Network can collaborate. They also provided an overview of the federal policy landscape, including a discussion of ASPPH’s advocacy efforts on behalf of the PRC program. They concluded by offering some suggestions on how the PRCs can educate policy makers about the vital role of the PRCs in advancing prevention activities in the communities they serve and how they contribute important new knowledge to others. Dr. Raskob and Mr. Mazzaschi’s presentation led to a lengthy discussion session.
