ASPPH Letter to the EPA

This week, the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) wrote to Mr. Scott Pruitt , Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), strongly protesting his decision to prohibit Environmental Protection Agency-funded scientists from serving on Agency scientific advisory boards. ASPPH noted that “the investigators that EPA supports are the scientists most expert on the subject matters within EPA’s purview. The EPA’s careful grant review and selection process identifies the most competent scientists with the highest quality research proposals. To use their excellence – as identified by the EPA itself – as a reason to bar them from providing highly informed advice to you and your Agency colleagues is perverse.” ASPPH concluded, “This action, regrettably, appears to be an Administration effort to silence scientific advice and to limit the expertise provided to EPA to those with ideological and commercial interests.”
