ASPPH Participates in Thrive DC Coat Drive

Last week, ASPPH staff participated in our first annual coat drive. Coats were collected for homeless men, women, children, and babies. Staff also volunteered to organize and distribute coats at Thrive DC, an organization that provides a safety net for people experiencing homelessness, unemployment, housing instability, and food insecurity.

The cold weather poses a threat to those experiencing homelessness even when temperatures seem mild. Having a warm winter coat, hat, gloves can make a difference. Addressing the public health needs of the homeless and vulnerable populations is a priority for our members. Together, we can work to improve the life of people in need. ASPPH staff will be continuing to help those in our communities by collecting coats, hats and gloves throughout December. We hope you will also consider hosting a coat drive in your community.

One client at Thrive DC brightened a little after he rustled through the coats and found a long, light brown overcoat. “I’ll take it,” he said, “After all, I’m not going to be homeless forever!”
