ASPPH Remembers Life of CEPH’s Executive Director Emerita

Ms. Pat Evans, CEPH’s executive director emerita, passed away at home on Saturday, November 7 at after a long battle with cancer. Ms. Evans served as CEPH’s executive director for 23 years, from June 1, 1981 until March 31, 2004. She was a respected voice not only in academic public health but also in specialized and professional accreditation. Throughout her career, she served in a variety of appointed and elected positions for the American Public Health Association including on the Executive Board, the Action Board, and the Joint Policy Committee and was a member of the Community Health Planning Section. She was a leader in the Council of Postsecondary Education as vice-chair of the Assembly of Specialized Accrediting Bodies, and was a founding member of the Association of Specialized and Professional Accreditors.

Ms. Evans lived in Parkersburg, West Virginia with her sister, Ms. Susan Neely, and enjoyed spending her winters in Tucson, Arizona. Ms. Evans enjoyed painting and collecting glass art.

Memorial services will be Saturday November 21 at 12:00 p.m. at the First Unitarian Universalist Society of Marietta with Reverend Kathryn Hawbaker officiating.  A time of gathering for family and friends will be one hour prior to services.  Leavitt Funeral Home, Parkersburg is assisting the family with arrangements.
