ASPPH Welcomes New Class of ASPPH/CDC Public Health Fellows

ASPPH welcomes six new fellows who will engage in rigorous one-year training assignments through the ASPPH/CDC Public Health Fellowship Program. The Public Health Fellows for 2021-2022 will serve in five CDC Centers/Institutes/Offices: the Center for Global Health (CGH), the National Center for Emerging and Zoonotic Infectious Diseases (NCEZID), the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC), the National Center for Immunization and Respiratory Diseases (NCIRD), and the Office of the Associate Director for Communication (OADC).

During the fellowship assignment period, the fellows will train under the guidance of public health experts within CDC while contributing to a variety of projects that will advance the agencies’ priority areas.  “I am looking forward to an amazing experience as an ASPPH/CDC Fellow with NCIPC.”, said Ms. Makala Carrington. “Throughout my public health career, I have gained extensive experience in injury and violence prevention and was honored to have been selected as an ASPPH/CDC Fellow. I have always sought interest in NCIPC and was determined to secure an opportunity to join their team. I truly believe that this opportunity will be a life changing experience for me given my current experience and education. I am excited to apply the knowledge gained throughout my BSPH and MPH programs to create and maintain impactful change. I have already received immense support from ASPPH thus far and look forward to learning and growing alongside my esteemed cohort.”

The new Class of 2021 ASPPH/CDC Public Health Fellows includes:

  • Su Yeon Bae, MPH, Emory University Rollins School of Public Health, will be based in OADC.
  • Makala Carrington, MPH, University of North Carolina Gillings School of Global Public Health, will be based in NCIPC.
