AUB: New Study with Pennsylvania State University and University of Michigan on Child‐level Double Burden of Malnutrition in MENA and LAC regions

Although the prevalence of obesity has rapidly increased in the low‐ and middle‐income countries of the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) and Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) regions, child undernutrition remains a public‐health challenge. Researchers from the Center for Research and Population Health of the American University of Beirut (AUB) – Faculty of Health Sciences (FHS), Graduate Public Health Program, the Pennsylvania State University and University of Michigan published a new study on prevalence and social determinants of “Child‐level double burden of malnutrition in the MENA and LAC regions.”

The aim of the study is to describe the double burden of stunting and overweight in under‐5‐year‐old children at both the population and the individual level in low‐ and middle‐income countries of the MENA and LAC regions. The researchers examine as well the associations between household wealth and maternal education and stunting, overweight, and their co‐occurrence in children across the two regions.
