BU Preparedness Initiatives

Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH) houses the Local Public Health Institute (LPHI); the mission of LPHI is to improve public health and preparedness capabilities by creating, implementing, and sustaining workforce development activities for local public health and other public health system partners in Massachusetts. It does this by developing on-line, in-person, and blended (combination of the two) trainings and courses. Currently, the LPH has a training catalog of more than 20 Emergency preparedness self-paces (online) trainings available 24/7/365 -including an Emergency Preparedness training certificate, provides provide Emergency Risk Communication training to the local public health workforce, Chairs the Emergency Preparedness track at the Massachusetts Health Officers Association annual conference and partners with organizations such as Delvalle Institute for Emergency Preparedness and the Massachusetts Department of Public health Office of Preparedness and Emergency Management. BUSPH also hosts the New England Public Health Training Center (NEPHTC), which develops trainings and provides services that build public health workforce competency across New England and is supported by the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) of the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
