Dr. William DeJong, a professor of community health sciences Boston University School of Public Health (BUSPH), received the Student Assembly Public Health Mentoring Award at the 2015 American Public Health Association (APHA) Annual Meeting.
The award recognizes the essential role of mentoring in public health and leadership development.
Among mentees submitting letters in support of his award nomination was Ms. Jacey Greece, clinical assistant professor of community health sciences. “He encourages his mentees to realize their full potential and to have high expectations of themselves and what they can accomplish,” she wrote, “because he has high expectations of their abilities.”
Dr. DeJong previously received the Norman A. Scotch Award for Excellence in Teaching from SPH in 2007, and the Faculty Mentor Award from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health in 1999.
