Colorado Researchers Show Diarrhea Cases Linked to Flooding and Heavy Rain

As our climate changes in temperature and precipitation, research shows an increase in diarrhea cases.  Colorado School of Public Health researchers found that specifically in Ecuador heavy rains were associated with a 39 percent increase in diarrhea cases.

Although the research shows precipitation linked to these cases, it is more associated to a country’s sanitation and flood control efforts.  Solutions to the global diarrhea problem can be helped by having clean drinking water and water for washing and hygiene.  Sanitation such as sewer systems can also help prevent people from coming into contact with human waste.
