Columbia Alumna Named Executive Director of Sex Education Organization for Educators and Teens

Ms. Nicole Cushman, Mailman School of Public Health MPH’11, was named executive director of the national organization, Answer, provider of training for educators and comprehensive sexuality education for young people through its teen-written publication, Sex, Etc.. Cushman will provide strategic vision for Answer, oversee the implementation of its strategic plan, provide budget and operations oversight and manage key relationships with national- and state-level organizations.

With nearly 15 years of experience in sexual and reproductive health as both an educator and trainer, Ms. Cushman previously served as director of education for Planned Parenthood Federation of America working with their affiliates to strengthen sexuality education policies and programs across the country.  She began her career as a sexuality educator with Planned Parenthood in the San Francisco Bay Area, working directly with teens and parents in schools and community settings.

Ms. Cushman holds an MPH from the Mailman School’s Heilbrunn Department of Population and Family Health. Her research focused on promising sexuality education programs across the U.S. and was recently published in the peer-reviewed journal Sex Education. Ms. Cushman’s new position was effective February 16.
