Wafaa El-Sadr, MD, MPH, director of ICAP and professor of epidemiology and medicine at Columbia Mailman School of Public Health, co-hosted a special session at the annual Conference on Retroviruses and Opportunistic Infections which was held virtually from Boston last week.
The session, entitled Epidemiology, Virology and Control of COVID-19 (CROI Updates), featured the following presentations:
Epidemiology and Disease Characteristics in China
Zunyou Wu, MD, China Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Epidemiology of COVID-19 and Control Measures
John Brooks, MD, US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention
Virology of Coronavirus

The presentations by top experts included important information on confronting COVID-19 — a pandemic that requires unprecedented global collaboration and partnership. “There are many lessons that we have learned over the decades in confronting other global health threats. Thus, it behoove us to distill these lessons and apply them to the current situation as well as to anchor our actions in evidence,” said El-Sadr.
