On October 17, the Department of Epidemiology at Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health will host an inaugural event for its new Center for Policy and Health Initiatives for Opioids and other Substances (PHIOS). Dr. Silvia Martins, associate professor of Epidemiology and director of the Substance Abuse Epidemiology Unit, is director of the new Center. PHIOS co-directors are Dr. Charles Branas, chair of epidemiology, and Dr. Lisa Metsch, dean of the School of General Studies at Columbia, and Mailman professor of sociomedical sciences.
To celebrate the launch of the Epidemiology-based Center, there will be an introduction to Center activities as well as a presentation of plans for the future. Naloxone training to all event attendees will also be offered.
