CUNY Doctoral Students Publish Paper on Inconsistencies Regarding Anal Use of Female Condom

Two current CUNY SPH doctoral students (Ms. Kristina Rodriguez and Ms. Christina Ventura-DiPersia), a recently-graduated MPH student (Mr. Michael T. LeVasseur), and faculty member (Dr. Elizabeth A. Kelvin) published an important paper about inconsistencies regarding anal use of the female condom. The authors published a systematic review of information found on Departments of Health for 50 states’ and 29 major cities’ websites. Studies suggest that a sizeable proportion of men who have sex with men use the FC for anal intercourse despite lack of safety and efficacy information. In the absence of safety and efficacy data, U.S. DOH websites are providing different and often contradictory messages about the FC for anal sex.
