Dr. Ashish Joshi, professor at the CUNY Graduate School of Public Health and Health Policy, and colleagues examined the burden of diabetes-related complications among diabetic patients with and without hypertension. The study was published in the Journal of Clinical & Diagnostic Research.
The objective of the study was to examine the complications of diabetes among individuals who also were hypertensive to those who were not hypertensive. The cross-sectional study was conducted at Saveetha Medical College and Hospital, Chennai, India. While more hypertensive diabetics reported diabetic neuropathy and retinopathy than the non-hypertensive participants, the differences were not statistically significant. Hypertensive diabetic participants rated their self-perception of poor health more frequently than did those without hypertension.
