Dr. Barbot has dedicated her career to achieving health equity. She is well-poised to lead the nation’s premier health department by bringing more than 25 years of experience in public health and healthcare delivery. Most recently, Dr. Barbot served as the First Deputy Commissioner of the New York City Department of Health and Mental Hygiene where she worked to eradicate health inequities by revamping Take Care New York 2020 (#TCNY2020), the city’s data-driven blueprint for achieving health equity, and spearheading the creation of the Center for Health Equity. She also oversaw efforts to bridge the gap between public health and healthcare delivery systems, agency performance measurement, and emergency preparedness.

Appointed Commissioner of Health for Baltimore City in 2010, Dr. Barbot’s tenure was marked by her leadership in the development of Healthy Baltimore 2015 health agenda and a record reduction in infant death rates.

During her work as the Medical Director of New York City public schools from 2003 to 2010, Dr. Barbot improved the delivery of health services for over one million children by leading the development and implementation of an electronic health record system. Dr. Barbot also served as the chief of pediatrics and community medicine at Unity Health Care, Inc., a federally qualified health center in Washington, DC., prior to her service in New York City.
