The powerful documentary Power to Heal: Medicare and the Civil Rights Revolution tells a little known and dramatic chapter in the historic struggle to secure equal and adequate health care for all Americans; a struggle that continues to this day. Central to the story is how the Federal Government and the Civil Rights Movement came together to use Medicare to mount a momentous coordinated and successful effort to desegregate thousands of hospitals practically overnight. The importance of this story is heightened by current attacks on Medicare and health equity.
The film raises critical questions about what it takes to move equity forward and presents a great jumping off point for a discussion of what to do next. Watch the trailer here. For more information, contact Barbara Berney, firstname.lastname@example.org, or Bullfrog Films, email@example.com.
