On Monday, July 22, Dean Donna Petersen of the University of South Florida College of Public Health gave a presentation on the “Framing the Future Taskforce.” In her presentation, Dean Petersen discussed the future of public health education and outlined its beginnings by pointing to the Welch-Rose Report as the seminal article for the current structure of public health education in the United States. “Public Health is not a profession, it is a goal,” Dr. Petersen quoted Dr. Al Sommer, dean emeritus at the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and segued into the future of public health education – a topic that Dr. Petersen says can be reimagined.
