Ms. Alexus Reynolds, MPH student in the Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Drexel University Dornsife School of Public Health (DSPH), won the student research poster competition at the Glasko Smith Kline Autumn Biostatistical Annual Conference (ABACUS).
The poster – “Social Determinants of Health and Weight Perception among Endometrial Cancer Survivors”— was Ms. Reynolds’s first project of this type. It was the result of her work at the Fox Chase Cancer Center as part of her DSPH practice experience.
For her research, Ms. Reynolds analyzed attitudes among endometrial cancer survivors and found that while there was an increased awareness of the link between endometrial cancer and obesity among older and better educated survivors, older survivors also felt that weight loss in general was less important. Ms. Reynolds’s concluded that further research should explore “the associations discussed in the research to identify mechanisms to facilitate weight the management needs of obese and overweight endometrial cancer survivors.”Tags: Friday Letter Submission, Publish on November 29
