Mr. David Maxwell, 1989 graduate of the ETSU College of Public Health with a BS in health care administration, received the 2015 Richard T. Sadler Distinguished Association Service Award from the Tennessee Health Care Association (THCA). The Richard T. Sadler Distinguished Association Service Award honors a corporate official, owner or full-time employee of a THCA member facility for steadfast, exceptional leadership in the association and enthusiastic support of THCA’s programs and activities.

Mr. Maxwell has been campus administrator at Shannondale of Maryville Continuing Care Retirement Community for the last 16 years. As campus administrator, he oversees 66 independent living homes, 90 independent living apartments, a 59 bed assisted living facility and a 44 bed Skilled Care Facility. Mr. Maxwell is also the vice president administrator for Presbyterian Homes of Tennessee, Inc.
When asked about his time at ETSU, Mr. Maxwell stated, “The classroom instruction and education that I received at East Tennessee State University and especially in the department of health has helped me to be the Long Term Care Administrator that I am today.” He added, “The curriculum that is set forth in this College is exactly what one needs to understand the day to day operations of a long term care facility. I took my Nursing Home Administrators License Exam three months after graduation and almost immediately got a job in long term care and have been in this field for 26 years since graduation.”
