East Tennessee: Tobacco Free in a Tobacco State

Though long considered a “tobacco state,” Tennessee has made a number of important strides in efforts to reduce the public health consequences of tobacco use. In 2007, Tennessee implemented the “Non-Smoker Protection Act”, which limited smoking in many enclosed places, including restaurants. In 2013, “Healthier Tennessee”, the governor’s campaign to improve the health of Tennesseans, included a goal of reducing the use of tobacco products.
