Emory’s Rollins School of Public Health and the Underwriters Laboratories — a global independent safety certification and testing science company — are collaborating to develop methodologies that assess acceptable amounts of chemical emissions from furniture.
Approximately 140,000 chemicals are used in products around the world and testing methodologies currently take years to evaluate levels of harmful chemical exposures, and risks. The duration is equally as lengthy when determining acceptable exposure levels. Emory will work with Underwriters Laboratories to develop timely and accurate methodologies for testing emissions for chemical exposure.
Completion of this project is tentatively scheduled for 2016.
