NAFSA Global Learning Colloquium: Addressing Healthcare Inequities Around the World

The 2018 NAFSA Global Learning Colloquium on Health Professions is a NAFSA Signature Program for faculty members, academic leaders, and international educators to explore global learning in disciplinary and cross-disciplinary contexts, and to discuss ways of integrating global learning into internationalization efforts across the curriculum. This colloquium is for those who seek to better prepare students so they can successfully practice in globally-interconnected and multicultural environments.

Who Should Attend: Deans, faculty members, senior international officers, and scholar-practitioners from professional schools in the United States and around the world.

Why: Infectious diseases do not respect borders and even non-communicable diseases can quickly become global epidemics. 21st century global health challenges are made more complex by inherent structural inequities and by educational deficiencies that do not address the global nature of these challenges. Future healthcare providers must understand the complex global systems within which they treat patients and serve communities.

What You Will Gain from Participating:

  • Strategies for integrating global learning across curricular and co-curricular activities;
  • Opportunities for developing ethical and equitable international partnerships; and
  • Resources for faculty professional development and methods to engage students in developing interprofessional global health competencies.
