Faculty of Health Sciences at the American University of Beirut in partnership with The Lancet invite you to the inaugural The Lancet-AUB International Conference on Health and Armed Conflict, November 6-8, 2018, at the AUB campus, Lebanon.
Armed conflict, which killed 190 million people in the 20th Century, remains the most pressing issue of our time. Numerous protracted conflicts are raging regionally and across the globe with blatant violations of international humanitarian and human rights laws, resulting in unmanageable complex humanitarian crises. Health is a frontline of many of today’s armed conflicts. Profound population health and health system impacts demand urgent attention and sustained global action.
The conference aims to facilitate critical discussions, advance inter-disciplinary knowledge, explore policy options, and review needed programmatic actions. Bridging policy, research and practice discussions, the conference will bring together some of the world’s most eminent scholars, policy leaders, and practitioners in the field.
The conference will see the launch of the report of The Lancet-AUB Commission on Syria on health and armed conflict.
