APHA Celebrates National Public Health Week

National Public Health Week is a time to highlight the message of healthy living through activities in your communities. NPHW shines a spotlight on public health by acknowledging the ways that we need to work together to make healthy living easier where people live, learn, work and play. And NPHW gives us an opportunity to showcase the amazing work being done by public health workers throughout the country.

Everyone deserves to live a long and healthy life in a safe environment. To make this happen, we must tackle the causes of poor health and disease risk among individuals and within our communities. Where we live, work, worship and play impacts each of use and can determine our health and how long we live. Right now, our country is grappling with public health issues that are severely impacting our communities and our health.

To bring much needed advocacy and education to these topics, this year we have selected daily themes for each day of NPHW around the overall theme “Healthiest Nation 2030: Changing Our Future Together”.  The daily themes for NPHW are as follows:

  • Monday – Behavioral Health
  • Tuesday – Communicable Diseases
  • Wednesday – Environmental Health
  • Thursday – Injury and Violence Prevention
  • Friday – Ensuring the Right to Health

This year, NPHW will take place April 2-8, 2018. Join us in celebrating during the week:

  • NPHW Student Day: This special event for public health students will feature APHA Executive Director Georges C. Benjamin, MD, and Milken Institute School of Public Health Dean Lynn Goldman, MD, MS, MPH, for a conversation about the future of public health and the skills and competencies students will need to meet the future needs of advancing health in the U.S. Do you have questions about the future of public health? Questions will be submitted during the event by the live audience and students from across the country joining the event via webcast. Visit the NPHW website for more information.
  • NPHW Forum: APHA is pleased to announce the NPHW Forum: Healthiest Nation 2030 – Changing Our Future Together taking place on April 2, 1-3pm. The keynote speaker will be Dr. Jerome Adams, U.S. Surgeon General. RSVP to watch the webcast LIVE.
