Join three members of the Committee on Educating Health Professionals to Address the Social Determinants of Health as they present and discuss their recently released report “A Framework for Educating Health Professionals to Address the Social Determinants of Health.” The committee, convened by The Institute of Medicine of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine, conducted a study to explore how the education of health professionals is currently addressing the social determinants of health in and with communities. Based on these findings, the committee developed a framework for how the education of health professionals for better understanding the social determinants of health could be strengthened across the learning continuum. This high level framework for health professional education will contribute to more effective strategies for improving health and health care for underserved individuals, communities, and populations.
