ASPPH Presents: How Academia Can Support Governmental Public Health Departments through Training: As Seen Through the Lens of Public Health Preparedness

This webinar examined the role of Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accredited schools and programs of public health in providing support to governmental public health departments through training, specifically examining training provided by the CDC-funded Preparedness and Emergency Response Learning Centers (PERLC) and Preparedness and Emergency Response Research Centers (PERRC). Based on results of interviews with ASPPH member schools and programs of public health and with a sample of practitioners at the state and local levels, the panelists, Dr. Elizabeth Ablah(Kansas) and Ms. Lee Thielen (consultant), examined perceived barriers and factors associated with level of engagement of core public health preparedness and response competency frameworks versus the focus on capabilities within governmental public health departments. Discussion focused on innovative strategies and exploration of how academia can support practice.
