ASPPH Presents Webinar: Opioid Litigation and the Opportunity to Advance Public Health Approaches Through a Possible Master Settlement Agreement

Hundreds of lawsuits have been filed by cities, counties, and others against opioid manufacturers and distributors. This webinar focuses on the status of the litigation and the opportunity a settlement agreement might offer to advance public health approaches to the address the opioid problem. Former Vermont Attorney General William Sorrell discusses the scope of the litigation, its aims, and how a multi-party settlement might be reached. Dean Cheryl Healton (NYU), who is the former President and CEO of the American Legacy Foundation (now the Truth Initiative), leads a discussion on how the public health community can suggest specific interventions that might be proposed for inclusion in any settlement. Dr. Joshua M. Sharfstein, Vice Dean for Public Health Practice and Community Engagement, Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, shares his perspectives as a former federal, state and local health official.
