Dr. Madison Powers, Professor in the Department of Philosophy and a Senior Research Scholar in the Kennedy Institute of Ethics at Georgetown University, will present “Feeding the World in 2050: Food, Fairness, and Global Markets” as the Justice, Health and Humanities Lecture and as part of East Tennessee’s Leading Voices in Public Health Lecture Series.
Dr. Powers has had a long-standing interest in social justice and public health and is the co-author of a recent book, Social Justice: The Moral Foundations of Public Health and Health Care Policy.
Currently, his research is focused on the combined challenges of production and distribution of food, energy, and water (the FEW problem).
He received a Doctorate of Philosophy (D.Phil.) from University College, Oxford and a JD from the University of Tennessee. Before his career as an academic philosopher, he was a lawyer working primarily in health and environmental law.
