The Mission of Mercy and Health Equity Festival will return for a second time to the University of Maryland Xfinity Center in September. Once again, the University of Maryland Terrapins’ basketball court will transform into a mobile dental clinic, with 100 dental chairs to provide free dental care to underserved, uninsured, and underinsured adults. Preventive health screenings and other services will be provided at the accompanying Health Equity Festival.
In 2014, the Mission of Mercy recruited 1,800 volunteers, 650 dentists and delivered $1.2 million in dental care and a variety of preventive health and screening services. This event is made possible by a partnership between the University of Maryland School of Public Health and the Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Washington, DC.
Treatment days will happen from 7:00 am – 5:00 p.m. on Friday Sept. 8 and Sunday the 10. Volunteers are being recruited to help with set up and tear-down and with patient registration and assistance on the event days.
