Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health’s Voices in Leadership program will feature “Universal Health Care: Thailand’s Road to Sustainability,” a live conversation with Dr. Somsak Chunharas, the former Minister of Health for Thailand, on Thursday, September 7, 2017 from 12:00-12:30 p.m. Eastern. Dr. Chunharas is a Menschel Senior Leadership Fellow at Harvard Chan School for the fall 2017 term. He formerly served as Deputy Minister of Health for Thailand and is currently President of National Health Foundation in Thailand, an NGO promoting and coordinating evidence-based health policy and system development. Throughout his career in the ministry of health, Dr. Chunharas directed several offices of the Ministry of Public Health, focusing on international health, health policy and system development, international collaboration and health manpower development, health statistics division, the Health System Research Institute, and Bureau of Health Policy and Strategies. Dr. Chunharas also pioneered a team working on health economics and health financing capacity building which led to various health reform initiatives over the last 30 years, such as a health promotion fund and the development of the Thai universal health care system. Interviewer will be Dr. Ashish Jha. View the webcast at hsph.me/voices. On demand video will be posted following the event at hsph.me/Chunharas. Send leadership questions for consideration to be asked during the webcast to @VoicesHSPH using #VoicesHSPH or by email to voices@hsph.harvard.edu. The Voices in Leadership webcast series at Harvard Chan School invites leaders to speak about their career experiences in global health. Participants share solutions that were effective, choices that failed, and which decisions, if any, could have been made differently. All sessions are available online via video with interactive downloadable transcripts, and via podcast.
