ASPPH Presents Webinar: New DRAFT Global Health Competencies for the MPH Degree: Reactions

In 2011, ASPPH delivered a seminal Global Health Competency Model, Version 1.1 targeted to students specializing in global health upon graduation from a master’s-level program of study, whether in a school or program of public health or other health professions’ or graduate school. Since competency frameworks have a lifespan of three to five years, an ASPPH global health advisory group began work to update the model in 2016, proceeding to survey members and partners, consider changes in the field, and review the literature for new approaches to incorporate in an updated model. Those who join in the webinar will not only learn about the new competency recommendations, which are based on the new Council on Education for Public Health (CEPH) accreditation requirements for the MPH degree, but will be invited to contribute comments, questions, and ideas to improve the proposed draft.

Learning Objectives:

  • State the purpose of the draft MPH in Global Health specialization competency recommendations
  • Explain the process used to derive the draft competency recommendations
  • React to the competencies proposed by asking questions, presenting concerns, and/or offering ideas for their improvement
