UAlbany Will Offer Free, Live Webcast on Health Literacy: A Tool for Effective Communication and Engagement

University at Albany School of Public Health’s Center for Public Health Continuing Education will host Health Literacy: A Tool for Effective Communication and Engagement, on Thursday, March 15, 2018 from 9:00 am to 10:00 am Eastern.  The webcast will feature Julie McKinney, MS.

Health Literacy Discussion List Moderator, Institute for Healthcare Advancement, Health Literacy Specialist, Exceptional Lives, Inc. and Wilma Alvarado-Little, MA MSW, Associate Commissioner, New York State Department of Health, Director, Office of Minority Health & Health Disparities Prevention.  This webcast will focus on the importance of assessing caregiver needs, strengths and limitations and designing a personalized plan to ensure caregiver well-being has become increasingly well recognized. This webcast will provide an overview of health literacy, its role in the provision of healthcare services, as well as how to engage the community in in this process, lessons learned about preparing oral and written materials, and how to present and review health literacy techniques for direct service care.
