Experts Confront WHO on E-Cigs

More than 50 scientists and experts, including ASPPH members, have written to WHO director-general Dr. Margaret Chan  to persuade her to view e-cigarettes as part of the solution to tobacco – not part of the problem. Reacting to a leaked Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) document that calls e-cigs a threat to public health that should be classified the same as cigarettes, the experts argue that, to the contrary, e-cigs and other noncombustible tobacco products (like “snus”) “could be among the most significant health innovations of the 21st Century – perhaps saving hundreds of millions of lives.”
