Dr. Christopher Besser and Dr. Sinyoung Park, 2014 graduates of the health services research PhD program at the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions’ department of health services research, management, and policy, are recipients of awards from the American Academy of Medical Administrators. They were honored at the National Summit of Medical Administrators held last month in Clearwater, Florida.
Dr. Besser received the YC Parris Young Federal Healthcare Executive of the Year Award for outstanding leadership abilities, overall capabilities, communication skills, customer service and innovation/creativity as an employee in the federal health system. He is the first Army recipient since 2001. Dr. Besser currently serves as an assistant professor at the Army-Baylor University Graduate Program in Health and Business Administration.
Dr. Park received the Student Research Paper of the Year Award for her paper “Which Provider Service Network Type is More Efficient in Florida Medicaid Managed Care?” In it, she examined the difference in health care expenditures between health system-based provider service networks and physician-based provider service networks. She is a visiting assistant professor in the College of Education and Public Policy at Indiana University–Purdue University Fort Wayne.
