Florida: Faculty Member Receives HRSA Grant to Study Health Outcomes in Girls with Autism

Dr. Amber Angell, a research assistant professor in the University of Florida College of Public Health and Health Professions Department of Occupational Therapy, was awarded an Autism Secondary Data Analysis Research Program award from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA). The grant will support an examination of co-occurring medical and behavioral conditions in girls and young women with autism spectrum disorder using the OneFlorida Data Trust, a repository of statewide health care data for more than 15 million Floridians. The project is a critical first step in identifying and addressing health and health care disparities among girls and women with autism, who are receiving increased attention as an understudied, underserved population.

The team also includes Dr. Jennifer Elder from the UF College of Nursing, Dr. Baiming Zou from the UF department of biostatistics and Dr. Deepthi Varma from the UF department of epidemiology, along with a team of investigators from Children’s Hospital Los Angeles.
