Florida Response to Orlando Shootings

The University of Florida’s most iconic symbol, Century Tower, has been lit with rainbow colors every evening since June 20 to express support for survivors, families, friends and all impacted by the attack on Pulse nightclub and the LGBT and LatinX communities. A commemoration and unity ceremony will be held on Tuesday, June 28, at 8:30 p.m. at the tower for students, staff and faculty, as they return from break and begin the second session of summer classes.

“Though the violence affects each of us in different ways, we gain strength when we reaffirm our bonds as people and share in our fundamental humanity,” said Dr. W. Kent Fuchs, UF’s president. “Thus, we join thousands of others in Orlando and throughout the nation to counter hatred with love, compassion, and unity among all people.”
