Florida World AIDS Day Initiatives

University of Florida researchers with the Southern HIV Alcohol Research Consortium, directed by Dr. Robert Cook, professor of epidemiology and medicine, have initiated the Florida Cohort, a longitudinal study to examine health care outcomes in persons with HIV infection living in Florida. Researchers will study how individual characteristics, clinical health services, and community level factors influence the use of health care and HIV clinical outcomes, such as CD4 count and viral load. Long-term goals include evaluating interventions that will improve acceptability and use of services for substance abuse and mental health and determining if these programs help people with HIV have better outcomes and improved quality of life.
