Dr. Matthew Hayat, professor of biostatistics in the Department of Population Health Sciences within the Georgia State University School of Public Health, recently co-presented research on the detection and visibility of sub-cutaneous bruises at the International Conference on Forensic Nursing Science and Practice in New Orleans, LA. Currently, forensic nurses document bruises with the naked eye and cannot document bruises that are not easily visible, thus missing some bruises if they are older or not as visible.
Dr. Hayat’s co-presenters were Dr. Katherine Scafide of George Mason University’s College of Health and Human Services and Dr. Daniel Sheridan and Dr. Nancy Downing of Texas A&M College of Nursing. This work resulted from the team’s National Institute of Justice funded project.
