Dr. Matt Hayat, faculty in the Georgia State University School of Public Health, was honored by Georgia State provost Dr. Risa Palm at the “Celebrating Faculty Excellence 2019” Event in May 2019.
Dr. Hayat, the founder and director of the Georgia State Biostatistics Research Collaborative (BRC), was honored for attaining promotion to the rank of professor with tenure during the 2018-19 academic year. He was the only faculty member from the Georgia State University School of Public Health honored during the 2019 event.
Dr. Hayat is the co-investigator on multiple federally funded projects from diverse funding agencies (DOD, NIH, NIJ, PCORI) that include several large-scale randomized controlled trials. His research interests include the design and analysis of clinical trials, interdisciplinary collaboration, and biostatistics education. In addition to his work with the BRC, Dr. Hayat conducts research studies about teaching and learning of biostatistics and has been an associate editor since 2014 for the Journal of Statistics Education, an official publication of the American Statistical Association. He teaches introductory and advanced statistics courses, including “Fundamentals of Clinical Trials and Multilevel Models in Public Health”.
