Georgia State Professor Tapped for CDC Advisory Role

Dr. Daniel Whitaker, Professor of Health Promotion & Behavior at the School of Public Health at Georgia State University, has been asked to serve on the Board of Scientific Counselors for the National Center for Injury Prevention and Control (NCIPC) of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

His term will extend through August 2020.

The Board advises the Secretary of the Department of Health and Human Services; the Director of the CDC; and the Director of NCIPC regarding surveillance, basic epidemiology research, intervention research, and implementation, dissemination, and evaluation of promising and evidence-based strategies for the prevention of injury and violence.

The Board also helps with review of applications for research grants, cooperative agreements and a range of other duties related to injury prevention and control.

Dr. Whitaker also serves as Director of the National SafeCare Training and Research Center (NSTRC). The SafeCare model is an evidence-based program for the prevention of child maltreatment that has provided training across the United States and in six countries.
