During its annual meeting on Friday, October 16, Delta Omega inducted Governor Gretchen Whitmer as the 2020 National Honorary Member. Delta Omega periodically confers honorary membership upon persons possessing exceptional qualifications, who have attained meritorious national or international distinction in the field of public health.
Governor Whitmer was inducted in recognition of her commitment to improving the lives of all Michiganders by addressing everyday barriers to better health. In addition to recognizing racism as a public health crisis, she also sees the importance of investing in preventative care and reducing the public health disparities affecting so many in her state. She exemplifies distinguished service in public health and believes, “one of the principal duties of any governor is to protect and promote the health and wellbeing of our state’s residents.”
