GW Responds to Orlando Tragedy

In the wake of the tragedy in Orlando, Milken Institute School of Public Health (Milken Institute SPH) at the George Washington University (GW) came together to grieve, process, heal and move forward.  Dr. Lynn R. Goldman, MD, MS, MPH, Michael and Lori Milken Dean of Milken Institute SPH, reached out to members of the school community shortly following the shooting to express her grief and also call attention to the need for increased gun violence prevention efforts.

The office of communications at Milken Institute SPH worked with students to produce a series of videos that allow their voices to be heard. In an effort to focus on how we can move forward with an emphasis on change, understanding and love, students were asked to share what love is to them. The series launched with a video from Dean Goldman, followed by a video from Public Health Student Association (PHSA) Co-President Rachel Gunsalus. The most recent video in the series is from Milken Institute SPH student and coordinator for student support services Kiran Edelstein about the resources available on-campus to help students cope with events like this and year-round.

The school will continue to release videos through the week of June 20, and invites others to share their own videos or thoughts using the hashtag #LoveIs and the school’s handle @GWpublichealth on Twitter or GWpublichealth on Facebook. Follow the school on social media to follow along with the series.
