GWU Report Finds Pharmaceutical Companies’ DC Marketing Efforts Increase to $98 Million

Dr. Susan F. Wood, associate professor of health policy and environmental and occupational health at Milken Institute School of Public Health at the George Washington University, served as lead author on a study that found drug companies spent $97.5 million marketing pharmaceuticals in the District of Columbia in 2012. Over 31 percent of that spending was from payments and gifts to physicians, hospitals, and other health care providers. This is the first spending increase by drug companies since 2007.
