A new report that analyzed the health histories of 9.8 million men finds strong evidence that excess body fat may increase advanced prostate cancer risk. The report, Diet, Nutrition, Physical Activity and Prostate Cancer, was released by the American Institute for Cancer Research (AICR) and the World Cancer Research Fund Internationals Continuous Update Project (CUP).
“This is the first time our rigorous process has uncovered a clear and consistent link between body fat and prostate cancer,” said CUP Panel lead Edward Giovannucci, professor of nutrition and epidemiology at Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health, in a Fox News article published online December 17, 2014. “Today we have something new to tell men worried about this disease: You can take steps to help protect yourself from its most aggressive and deadliest forms.”
