Iowa Alumna Named Co-director of Center for Pacific Islander Health

University of Iowa College of Public Health alumna Dr. Nia Aitaoto (PhD ’13) has been named co-director of the newly created Center for Pacific Islander Health based at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ northwest Arkansas campus in Fayetteville.

She received her doctoral degree in community and behavior health from the UI and previously served as an advisor to the National Association of Chronic Disease Directors and as a curriculum developer and instructor for the World Health Organization’s Pacific Open Learning Health Network.

The center’s work will include health disparities research, disease prevention and management programs, cultural competency training for health care providers, community health worker training, and program evaluation.
