Iowa Alumnus Receives Governor’s Award for Volunteer Work in Haiti

Dr. Christopher Buresh, an emergency medicine physician at the University of Iowa and 2012 alumna of University of Iowa College of Public Health, was recently awarded the 2014 Individual Governor’s Volunteer Award for his work with Community Health Initiative-Haiti, an organization he co-founded to provide primary care services in Haiti.

Dr. Buresh visits Haiti every three months or so carrying out the work of Community Health Initiative-Haiti: staffing and equipping primary health care clinics, developing clean water systems, building latrines, and training Haitian health workers.
